Guide for Authors

1  Aims & Scope

Landscape Architecture is an international academic journal focusing on landscape architecture planning and design, urban design and public art, which is governed by the Ministry of Education of PRC and sponsored by Beijing Forestry University. The journal is dedicated to promoting frontier theories, focusing on the discipline development and discussing hot topics in the industry. The journal mainly publishes theoretical research and practical applications in landscape architecture and related interdisciplinary fields. Article types include research papers, reviews, commentaries, and case studies. Key columns of the journal feature Special Topics, Research, Projects, Interview, Competition, etc.

Taking the professional practice of landscape architects as the core, the journal aims to actively explore the academic front and new achievements. The journal's editorial team has organized numerous events to guide, promote and strengthen the communication in this field nationwide from all its aspects and multiple perspectives.

2  Submission & Review of Manuscripts

2.1 Submission Guideline

1) Before submission, please carefully read the instructions on this page and relevant documents, and follow them to prepare and revise your manuscripts.

2) Authors shall not infringe on the copyrights of others or engage in academic misconduct, such as plagiarism, research falsification, multiple submissions, redundant publications, self-plagiarism, etc. Authors are responsible for their own works. The sources of cited literature and images should be indicated in article. The journal will not be jointly and severally liable for any manuscript or image that infringes on the copyright or other rights of others.

3) Authors need to upload the following materials together with manuscript: ① the Copyright Transfer Agreement of Landscape Architecture signed by all authors, and the document of Statements on Author Order and Contribution, and Conflict of Interest; ② author information; ③ funding information (if any). 

4) Please submit your manuscript online through the Submission System (www.lalavision.com). We generally do not accept submission via email or paper mail.

2.2 Manuscript Review

1) The whole review process generally includes four stages: Preliminary Review, Peer Review, Review by Associate Editor-in-Chief, and Final Review. The whole review process takes about 3 months. If you do not receive any revision or acceptance notice from the Editorial Office after 3 months, you would have right to submit your manuscript to other journals after contacting us.

2) The review process is double-blind. In order to ensure fairness and impartiality, the date of submission, contact person, authors' names and introduction, fund project, acknowledgement and other content containing author information should not appear in article. Please put above-mentioned information in a separate document (named "Author Information") and submit it as attachment.

3) If a manuscript needs revising after review, the revised version of the manuscript should be returned to us within 2 months, and if there are any difficulties, please inform us of the situation in time. If the manuscript is not returned in six months, it will be considered as a withdrawal.

4) After the manuscript is published, each author will be given a copy of the current issue as gift.

3  Writing Guide

3.1 Author Information

1) Each article should have no more than four authors. If the first author is not the corresponding author, please mark the corresponding author with "*".

2) Names of Chinese authors should be written in Chinese Pinyin. For authors from other countries, their names shall be written in accordance with international standards, and the nationality of the author should be written before the name, for example, (USA) Alan Tate.

3) Each author should provide his/her profile in both English and Chinese, please see the Writing Template of Landscape Architecture for details. Please add the email address of the corresponding author after his/her profile.

3.2 Fund Project

The journal gives priority to publishing articles with funding from national, provincial and ministerial level research projects or key scientific research projects.

1) The electronic file of fund project approval should be uploaded (if any).

2) The information of fund project should include the project name and project number. Multiple fund projects should be separated by ";", without a full-stop at the end. Please refer to the Writing Template of Landscape Architecture for details.

3.3 Word Count

No more than 8,000 words in Chinese (including figures and tables).

3.4 Title

The Chinese title should be no more than 20 Chinese characters, and a corresponding English title should be provided. Title should be concise and specific, and summarize the main idea of the article.

3.5 Abstract

Abstract should be written in both English and Chinese. For original research articles, abstracts of both English and Chinese versions should be structured in four parts, including: Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusion. For review and other types of articles, abstracts do not have to be divided into the above-mentioned four parts.

Chinese abstract should be around 300 words. English abstract should be with a word count of at least 800, which does not need to correspond strictly to the Chinese abstract, but should reflect the main content of the article as far as possible.

3.6 Keywords

Each article should contain between 3 and 8 Chinese keywords, and the corresponding English keywords should be provided.

The most searchable terms should be chosen as keywords to reflect the contents or research fields covered by the article, so that readers can easily search your article. Please use a semicolon to separate each keyword.

3.7 Headings

Headings at all levels of the main text should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals, with no punctuation after the last number, for example: "1", "1.1", "1.1.1", "1.1.1.1".

The headings are limited to four levels.

3.8 Figures & Tables

All figures and tables should be marked with their sources at the end of the article, with "Sources of Figures and Tables:" as the identification. Please refer to the Writing Template of Landscape Architecture for details. If the source is a reference cited by the article, please see 3.9 for details.

The number of figures should not exceed 10. Figures should be of high quality and in high resolution. Detailed requirements for figures are as follows:

1) Figures shall be inserted numbered in the corresponding position in the text, and the figure numbers shall be in the same order as the figures appear in the text. Figure titles should be provided in both Chinese and English.

2) Photographs shall be at least 4 million pixels (2,272 × 1,704 pixels), with 5 million pixels (2,592 × 1,944 pixels) or more recommended, and could be in JPG format.

3) Drawings should be produced by professional drawing software, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc. The size of drawings shall not be less than 12 cm × 8 cm, resolution not less than 300 dpi. Please submit graphic files in the format of psd, eps or jpg. For planning and design drawings, the north arrow, line segment scale and legend should be marked on the drawing.

4) When a figure involves maps or their redrawing, the figure will be reviewed according to the Regulation on Map Management.

5) If there are foreign languages in a figure, they must be translated into Chinese.

The detailed requirements for tables are as follows.

1) Please use three-line tables. Tables are generally not allowed to contain any figures.

2) Table titles should be provided in both Chinese and English. The table number and title should be placed above the table, and the number should be inserted in the corresponding position of the text.

3.9 References & Annotation

The requirements for references are as follows:

References should be publicly published literature. The journal adopts the sequential coding system, i.e., the references are sorted according to the order in which they appear in the text.

References cited in figures and tables should be numbered in the order they appear in the full text, and marked in the titles of the figures and tables.

To ensure that articles focus on current research findings, we recommend that authors give priority to referring to recently published literature, preferably literature published within the last 10 years. Please avoid referring to outdated literature, unless it is necessary for the study.

The requirements for annotation are as follows:

Non-public publications that cited by the article should be indicated as annotation at the end of the article, marked with numbers (e.g., ①, ② ......).

3.10 Articles in the Column of "Projects"

1) The author of the article could be the design company of the project or the presiding designer.

2) The plane figures and photos of the completed project must be provided. If necessary, the concept maps, analysis diagrams or Gantt charts that reflect the design ideas should also be provided.

3) Please provide the following information: project location, project scale, design and completion time, client name, design company and picture source, etc.

4  Fees

4.1 Review Fee

For manuscripts that pass the preliminary review, a review fee of 400 CNY for each manuscript will be charged.

4.2 Publication Fee

For manuscripts that pass the final review, a publication fee will be charged. For articles in the column of “Projects”, the publication fee is 5,000 - 1,0000 CNY for each article, depending on the length of the article.

For other articles, the publication fee is 1,000 CNY per page. The Editorial Office will notify authors of the amount of the fee after the typesetting is finished.
